Log Home Plan FAQs

Are log cabin floor plans suitable for year-round living?
Yes. Our stunning log cabin home designs are ideal for full-time living, but they can also be built as a vacation home. They are suitable for any climate with HVAC systems and insulation. Spacious living areas, large bedrooms, and spa-like bathrooms make our log homes the perfect primary residence.

Are log home plans energy efficient?
With efficient layouts, strategic window placement, and optimal construction materials, you can take advantage of the natural insulation properties of logs. During the design process, be sure to clarify that you want an energy-efficient log home.

How do I choose the right log home floor plan?
When selecting a log cabin floor plan, determine if you want to build a permanent residence or a weekend getaway. Consider whether you will be entertaining and hosting guests. Choose a log home design that accommodates the number of occupants plus additional space for hosting out-of-town guests. Other factors that help you select the best log home design include your budget, the size of your lot, and your lifestyle.

Do most log cabin home designs have a loft?
Many log cabin designs feature a loft that overlooks the great room. Lofts add additional living space, perfect for a sitting area, reading nook, office space, or additional bedroom. If your log home plan doesn’t have a loft, you can customize it to add one.

Do log home floor plans require a lot of maintenance?
Log cabin home plans do not require much maintenance. In general, log homes are more durable in harsh weather conditions than conventional homes. The exterior of these log home designs should be stained roughly every five or so years. The time frame depends on if the sun is constantly shining on your home or if it’s in a shaded area; you can probably go longer between having to stain the logs.

How long does it take to build one of Golden Eagle’s custom log home designs?
The time frame for building a custom log home floor plan depends on the size. We estimate that a 1,400 to 1,800 square foot home will take approximately three to four months to build. A 1,800 to 2,100 square foot log home might take five to six months, and a 2,200 to 3,200 square foot home is about six to nine months. The time depends on your builder and the size of their crew, how intricate your log cabin design is, and the time of year and weather conditions.

What types of wood species are used in your log home plans?
We use Eastern White Pine with sharp wood grains since it is resistant to rot. All of our pricing is based on Eastern White Pine, but we also offer Douglas Fir or Western Red Cedar wood species for your custom log home design.
